Little Explorers: Why Staff-Child Ratios Matter
Does meeting the minimum legal staff-child ratio guarantee high-quality early childhood education? Not necessarily. Research suggests that appropriate staff-child ratios are an essential foundation for responsive teaching and individualized care. When teachers are responsible for too many children, they have fewer opportunities to understand each child's developmental needs, build trusting relationships, and support meaningful learning experiences. Although maintaining appropriate ratios alone does not guarantee high-quality education, failing to do so makes lower-quality care more likely. Meeting staff-child ratio requirements is a necessary starting point, not the ultimate goal of quality education.Once adequate staffing is established, other essential factors, including educators' professional knowledge, positive teacher-child interactions, developmentally appropriate practices, and strong family partnerships, can further contribute to a high-quality learning environment.

Little Explorers: Learning Empathy Through Our Daycare Pet
Can interacting with a daycare pet support young children's social and emotional development? Research suggests that positive interactions with animals may encourage empathy, emotional regulation, and social engagement. Even before children can fully express their feelings through language, observing and interacting with a familiar pet provides opportunities to recognize emotions, practice gentle behavior, and develop respect for other living beings. As children learn to recognize when an animal feels comfortable or needs space, they begin developing awareness of others' feelings and boundaries. Having a daycare pet is more than simply enjoying an animal's company; it offers meaningful opportunities to nurture empathy, curiosity, and respect for living things. With responsive caregiver guidance and close supervision, these everyday experiences can contribute to children's early social-emotional development.
Our Story:
My professional journey began in media and the arts, where I earned my Master’s degree in Art, but my academic foundation has always been broader. Growing up in China, I completed the rigorous national college entrance examination and was accepted to Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai, building a strong foundation in mathematics and science that continues to shape my interest in STEM.
My journey in education began in 2015 at Saint Mary’s as an assistant teacher, followed by work as a K–12 substitute teacher and later as a lead teacher across different early childhood education programs. I have worked in both family child care homes and center-based settings with children ages 18 months to 5 years and completed my practicum at Bright Horizons. Along the way, I earned my California Child Development Site Supervisor Permit and developed a clear belief: meaningful learning begins with secure relationships, individualized attention, and truly knowing each child.
I also believe behavior is communication. Behind challenging behavior, I often see a child asking for help in the best way they know how. Rather than simply correcting behavior, I seek to understand the need behind it and help children develop healthier ways to express themselves.
At Bright Sun, my backgrounds in STEM, art, and early childhood education come together. I bring the “A” of Art into STEM to create STEAM within a Reggio Emilia–inspired, inquiry-based approach where children wonder, investigate, create, and learn through play and real-world experiences.
These experiences inspired me to create Bright Sun Day Care—an intentionally small, low-ratio, nurturing environment where children can be truly known and valued. I invite families who share these values to join a community where childhood is respected, curiosity is nurtured, and every child has the time, attention, and freedom to grow.

Bright Sun Day Care offers scheduled and same-day drop-off care when space is available, giving families a flexible option for unexpected schedule changes, appointments, work commitments, or simply when you need a little extra support. Once your request is submitted, please wait for confirmation from Bright Sun Day Care. Your spot is secured only after you receive our confirmation.
Scheduled Rate: $70/hour • 3-hour minimum
Same-Day Rate: $100/hour • 3-hour minimum
A one-time, non-refundable fee designed to give families a personalized introduction to Bright Sun Day Care. The consultation includes family orientation, discussion of your child’s routines, interests, strengths, developmental needs, and family preferences, as well as enrollment processing and initial child file setup. We also use this time to begin developing an individualized care and learning plan that supports your child’s unique development and helps create a smooth transition into our program.
Monthly tuition is designed for families who are ready to commit to regular, ongoing care at Bright Sun Day Care. It reserves your child’s recurring schedule and includes individualized care and learning experiences throughout the month.
Families enrolled in monthly tuition do not pay a separate enrollment fee.
Our 12-month enrollment option is designed for families seeking a long-term partnership and a consistent early learning experience for their child. A full-year commitment allows us to plan ahead for your child’s development, build on their emerging interests and skills, and continuously adapt their individualized learning experiences as they grow.
Your child’s space is secured for the entire 12-month term, while tuition remains paid monthly. Families choosing annual enrollment receive our best long-term tuition rate, recognizing their commitment to a full year of care.
